Mother Knows Best

I get at least a phone call a day from my mom. And before hanging up, she is able to cram 4 "ingats" in the conversation, 3 "don't forget to pray", and 2 "take care of Paco".  And this is all just additions to her main reason for the phone call, which perhaps might be "Don't forget to hear mass today.  It's a holiday of obligation", or " I heard on tv that this recent fogging in the metro is very bad for kids' lungs. So keep Paco indoors. And therefore it's a bad idea for our entire family to go up foggy Baguio this holiday season".

Haaay mommies:-)  I am wondering when I will acquire these habits, now that I am Mommy myself.

I love my Mom.  And now that I am mom, I think moms, in general, will be the person who will love you the most.  Am I right or am I right?

Anyway, here is the storybook we made for the Morrison's.  And kudos to Kim Morrison, devoted wife and mom to 5 talented kids!  She has managed to use her art to spread her words of love, wisdom and encouragement.  It's all over her house. Carved on her dining table, on chairs, on her wooden step ladder, on her fridge magnets, on stick notes... they are everywhere. No wonder we felt this positive vibe in her house. And all her kids were equally happy and inspired.

Hope you like our book ;-)

Come home for love.

Keep on the sunny side
Sing a solo.

Know your heritage.

Play hard.

Be creative.

Count your blessings.

Keep your nose in a book.

Relax.

Find your way back home.
(words in the book are actual woodcarvings of Kim Morrison.)

8 Feet of Love

Hi folks!  This is our long overdue post on our twin baby storybook entitled 8 Feet Of Love.
This was shot when Anton and Andres were 17 days old! Ah, so precious!

Hope you like it ;-)

8 Feet Of Love
How do you measure our love?
In Inches? Or in miles?
In the times you are kissed

or embraced?

How do you measure our love?

In ounces? Or in pounds?

Our love knows no hours or weeks.
It endures all the minutes and seconds of everyday.

Our love knows no measure.
The love all 8 arms can grasp.

Our love knows no distance
where all 8 feet of love will take us.

Judging the Book Covers

"Let's go to the bookstore!"
When my 4 year old son, Paco invites me to Fully-Booked, I am always more than willing to take him.  I love going to the bookstore. Especially to Fully-Booked at Boni High.  Imagine 5 floors of solace;-)
I'm excited to browse through the bookshelves,
shamefully not for the newest titles, but really for the latest book cover designs.
Ah! The eye candy book covers...  Seeing them all on the shelf is a real feast for the eyes.  Single powerful images designed to  represent the inside pages.
Should the cover serve as a teaser? A synopsis?
I wonder if the covers make the sale?  I am guilty that I have bought some novels because of very captivating covers. The design, the photo, the font, the layout, the illustrations, the graphics, all the pretty details...
Such beautiful layouts!.... Ahhh... Such a geeky trip eh?

Let me share with you some very interesting cover designs.

MEET THE MORRISONS

I met an amazing family of artists last week.

This is a picture of Kim, and her 5 wonderful kids.

Eldest daughter, Mattie is 13. She writes, paints and plays the guitar.
Ellie is 6. She plays the violin.

Finn is 11.  He plays the guitar too!

Seamus is 9. And he is the piano man.
And Bexie is  only 2. She is everyone's sweetheart.

The family actually baked cookies in the middle of our shoot.
And the cinnamon sugar coookies turned out really good!

But Kim had a lot more food on the table.
Soul food that is.
 Kim is an artist herself.
She hand-carved the borders of their dining table
with words of inspiration and motivation.
Kim boosts her family with optimism
and comfort.

For breakfast,
lunch and dinner.
Because the heart needs nourishment too.

It's great when we get inspired at work.
Thanks to the Morrisons!

Portfolio #14: Love Two Much

(Book Title:  The Two Of Us)

I remember tearing the first time I laid eyes on my new born baby.  The feeling was unexplainable. Just like in tv ads, tears just naturally fell the instant the doctor showed me my baby the very first time.  It was so overwhelming. I'm not sure if that was out of relief, because I was in labor for 72 hours, only to be subjected to an emergency C-section!  But I really remember feeling so much love pouring out of me for that 7-pound stranger I was trying to desperately push out of me.  And then on the very next second, I turn to look at my most amazing Lamaze coach, my husband. And again, that instant bond and love between the two of you. That look that you share, knowing and understanding that your life has now turned into something else.  That your lives are now not only yours, but is for this little person you brought into this world.  All these emotions I remember before I conked out from all the epidural shots and from all that pushing and breathing and focusing.

And this is all for just one baby.
And what if I had twins?  OMG! I don't think this is something I know.  Is it just multiplying all those feelings times two?

We had the privilege of meeting the newborn twins on their day 3. It was a double delight to finally meet Anton and Andres Tayao, born exactly a minute apart on October 14, 2011.  We gave them a visit at St. Lukes Global City, and took intimate portraits of boys.  They were being bathed when we got there so it was a perfect time to catch them awake. We didn't want to disturb the newborns, and for sure, the still very tired parents who decided to room-in with their babies right away. So we tried to be as discreet and quiet, and quick.  But we wanted to catch the personalities Daddy Butch was talking about- that Anton is the steady one, with more hair. And Andres- the deep sleeper, the loud crier, who wants to get things done his way. But what I really want to witness to is how these two brothers will interact with one another.  How do they feel now that they're not sharing a tight space in mom's womb?  The miracle of twins will forever be too awesome for me.

This book is dedicated to Anton and Andres.  May you one day share with us your amazing experience of having a twin.

(Kindred spirits.)

(They say my thoughts, and read my mind)

(They know my fears.)

(They share them too.)

(Their smile is my reflection)

(Their voice my own.)

(They type my sentences)

( ...before I do.)

(Soulmates of another kind.)

(We have separate bodies
But one internal home.)

Welcome to the world, Anton and Andres.
Happiness, Joy, and Love.
All times 2 ;-)
